BATTLE-TESTED DOMAIN MARKETPLACE
👉 ODYS.global 👈
I cover why I love expired domains in this all-inclusive guide. My major source of domains is ODYS.global. It is a private marketplace of brandable domains with excellent backlink profiles. They are currently giving away $100 for all new members. Plus, if you deposit funds via TranferWise you get 10% cash back to use towards your subsequent purchases. Check them out here.
Domain 1: *****Buzz.com
Niche: Gardening
Source: ODYS.Global
Age: 2000 (20 years old)
AHREFS:
Backlinks: Amazing backlinks from Wikipedia, Slate, EDU sites, and 130 other referring domains.
Side note: based on the link profile, I think AHREFs has the domain rating (DR) too low. It should be much higher. MOZ has the site at domain authority of 28. Majestic has a trust-flow and citation flow of 23 and 13, respectively.)
Another reason why you should never blindly trust tools. Always cross-reference and use your best judgment. This site has more authority than stated by AHREFs.
Site History:
This 20-year-old domain was a directory for all types of plants out there. It was created by an enthusiast, Marc M., who would collect information about various plants and do write-ups on the site. Over time, the site has become an authority of pictures, history, and details about various plants.
Here is a snapshot of the past site:
Listed Price: $3,170
What Would I Do?
The gardening niche is an interesting one for me. It has a rabid niche audience, many digital and physical products to promote as an affiliate, and also able to create digital/physical products yourself.
There are also a LARGE number of bloggers in this space as well. Most are what I term as "hobbyists" who do not know much about SEO optimization. This is a huge plus as you can acquire these sites for cheap and build a moat for your business.
This is exactly what I would do with this domain:
Hire a VA to manage the social media platforms to drive traffic (mostly Pinterest)
Start the first 6-months with only informative content answering questions. This will result in significant traffic which can then be monetized by Mediavine, or Newor Media at above $15 CPM average.
Post-6-months add buying guides, product reviews, etc.
Collect emails from day one with a lead magnet (e.g., X Downloadable Checklists to Start a Garden)
Create digital products when the email audience and traffic is big enough
Tip: As for digital products, you don't necessarily need to create it yourself. You can license and outright purchase rights to someone else's digital products. I did that for my outdoor site which you can read here.
Many opportunities in this niche.
Domain 2: The*****Pit.com
Niche: Food, Cooking
Domain Source: ODYS.global
Age: 2006 (14 years old)
AHREFS: 11
Backlinks: Notable backlinks from Bonappetit, Zomata, NJ.com, CrossFit, LivingSocial, and 63 other referring domains.
Site History:
In the past, this domain was owned by a New Jersey-based BBQ restaurant that specialized in all types of BBQ.
Here is a snapshot of what the site looked like:
Listed Price: $1,410
What Would I Do?
This one is easy: build an authority site discussing BBQ. You can in detail do the following:
Informative articles on how to make the best BBQ meats
Product reviews and buying guides
While the BBQ community is die-hard, I do not think there is a benefit here in creating an email list or community. You are better off ranking for long-tail keywords and dominating the SERPs, and then monetizing with display ads and affiliate links.
If I were to do this, I would put this on a horizon of 12-18 months and then flip.
Domain 3: Mining******.com
Niche: Cryptocurrency, Technology
Domain Source: ODYS.global
Age: 2016 (4 years old)
AHREFS:
Backlinks: Notable backlinks from GitHub, HackerNoon, BitcoinTalk, Ethereum.org, CryptoCompare, and 260 other referring domains.
Site History:
The website was solely focused on mining equipment for cryptocurrency mining computers. Specifically, they focused on graphics cards, how to set them up for the fasted mining speed, and they had a user community that would input their respective speeds for graphics cards.
Here is the history snapshot:
Listed Price: $1,760
What Would I Do?
GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) mining for cryptocurrencies (not just Bitcoin, but altcoins) is a niche topic but can be lucrative. Check out this article.
The domain is brandable in that you can cover many topics, not just graphics cards.
Fastest crypto servers
Fast crypto-focused CPUs
Best cryptocurrencies
Cryptocurrency can be mined using a GPU, a dedicated hosting server, or even your own local computer. These are all called mining rigs.
This is exactly what I would do:
Write reviews of various crypto hardware benchmarked by speed
Write buying guides, best service guides, etc.
Add a community-driven element to get upvotes, user input, etc. on hardware (like MiningSpeed did in the past)
Add tools to attract users (e.g., profitability calculator, crypto to fiat converter, crypto tracker)
Add email opt-in (crypto niche subscriber value is high)
Also can hire a crypto signal expert (like this Flippa business did) and sell subscriptions
If you have an interest in this space, then this would be an excellent domain to pick up.
